Hughey is Professor of Sociology at the University of Connecticut, where he researches the social dimensions of “race” in relation to science, religion, media, socio-economic inequality, and more. He is the author of several scholarly books, including White Bound (Stanford), The Obamas and a (Post)Racial America? (Oxford), 12 Angry Men (The New Press), Racialized Media (NYU) and The White Savior Film (Temple).
